Simon, FAIA, LEED AP, in 1994, is a nationally recognized green building consulting firm.  S&A uses a practical and collaborative approach to advance sustainable and healthy building design and construction practices.  The firm’s clients include design firms, as well as public, private, and nonprofit building owners and developers, representing a variety of building types including institutional, educational, commercial, industrial, and residential.  The breadth and depth of S&A’s project experience and long history in the green building industry gives the firm an unparalleled understanding of the nuances of sustainable design and construction.  

The Senior Consultant position is an expert with seven+ years of experience in the architectural, engineering, or construction fields able to apply his/her multi-disciplinary skills to green building opportunities. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Design, construction, and operations & maintenance consultation
  • LEED project management
  • Technical support
  • Workshop facilitation
  • Client relations
  • Specifications review and materials research
  • Development of guidelines, tools, and educational resources
  • Presentations and trainings

The Senior Consultant is a motivated professional with exceptional communication and organizational skills and the ability to establish solid working relationships with team members and clients in a dynamic environment. The Senior Consultant is also actively involved in the positive marketing of the firm. This includes presenting at conferences and other speaking engagements and assisting with the development of marketing pieces such as ads, proposals, and other business development opportunities on an as-needed basis.  The Senior Consultant also participates in project interviews and cultivates client relations.

Additional qualities of a Senior Consultant include:

  • Enthusiastic about green building and knowledgeable about LEED certification;
  • Experienced with two or more of the LEED rating systems, especially LEED for Existing Buildings: Operations & Maintenance;
  • Technically competent with a high level of knowledge in energy and water issues;
  • Skilled at organizing and facilitating project meetings, training team members, and managing the LEED documentation process;
  • Capable of seeing a project through from conception to construction and beyond;
  • Able to work independently on LEED documentation for a variety of projects simultaneously, while positively motivating others throughout the duration of every project;
  • A creative, forward-thinking, and detailed oriented self-starter with strong technical knowledge in the construction field and its related documents;
  • Strong public speaking, facilitation and presentation skills;
  • Solidly computer literate and able/willing to work in a Mac office;
  • Open to learning new things and excited to share knowledge with others.

The ideal Senior Consultant should have knowledge of design analysis and graphic design tools. A master’s degree, architectural license, professional engineer, or other professional license is strongly preferred but not required. LEED AP under BD&C or EBOM is required.

This is a full-time position located at Simon & Associates’ San Francisco office. Salary commensurate with experience.

Please prepare a 500-word narrative on a specific green project, describing in detail its sustainability features. Specifically outline your role on the project and describe how you interfaced with the client and project team.  Please also highlight any lessons learned on the project.
