The carbon market strategies (CMN) unit delivers strategic consultancy on the carbon market (emission trading, offset mechanism) and other market based energy and climate policies such as white certificate systems. The unit works on a range of projects including policy design and implementation for both government and (industrial) corporate clients. We typically operate at the interface between the two client groups, making us a leading player in the field. Recent clients include the European Commission, the Dutch emission authority, the Asian Development Bank, the Cement Sustainability Initiative, Rockwool, and the China Steel Corporation.
To strengthen our market position in Germany, we are looking for an experienced senior consultant. You will manage projects on the design and implementation of the EU ETS (e.g. carbon leakage, international linking, and policy evaluation) for European and German government and corporate clients and is able to generate business in this field. You have a proven knowledge on the EU ETS (preferably including the economic theory and background of ETS). You are flexible enough to also work on other market based policy instruments such as white certificates and carbon offset mechanism. As a senior consultant, you will support other international colleagues in their work. In this position you will have a sales target. You will generate these sales via leads coming from your in-depth knowledge of the market and your existing network.
Your profile

- University education (preferably including courses on environmental economics) and at least 7 years of relevant professional experience including consultancy positions;
- Proven knowledge in the field of the EU ETS and the carbon market in general, preferably including proven expertise on the economic theory behind emission trading (windfall profits, competitiveness issues), auctioning of emission allowances and the regulatory set-up of emission trading schemes (registries, MRV requirements etc.);
- Strong relevant network in Germany;
- Commercial skills and good business sense to be able to identify and seize opportunities in a competitive market place;
- Extensive project management, proposal writing and presentation skills;
- Strong analytical skills;
- Excellent oral and written command of English and German.
