To strengthen our team, we are looking for a Senior Consultant carbon pricing policieswith experience supporting public and private German clients in the design and operation of the EU emissions trading (EU ETS) scheme. Candidates with a background in consulting, including those at management / strategy consulting firms, are encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate has an affinity with (sustainable) energy and the desire to have real impact in transitioning the world to a sustainable, decarbonized energy system.

To further grow our business in the German market in view of the upcoming EU ETS phase IV reform, we are looking for a senior consultant with experience in the design and operation of the EU ETS. You will be primarily responsible for the acquisition and successful delivery of projects on the design and implementation of the EU ETS for German clients, both in the public and private sector. Examples include:

  • Analysis of EU ETS phase IV design options for e.g. BMU / UBA / Dehst
  • Impact assessments for important sector organisations like VDI and VCI
  • International capacity building and support for e.g. GIZ
  • Carbon pricing strategy work for German based corporate clients
  • Impact assessments for important sector organisations like VDI and VCI 

Besides the primary responsibility, you will support the acquisition and delivery of projects in the carbon pricing domain for non-German clients such as the European Commission, Brussels based sector organisations, the World Bank etc. In this role, you will be responsible for identifying issues, structuring problems, forming hypotheses, designing and conducting analysis, synthesizing conclusions into recommendations, and helping to implement change with our clients. Throughout your assignments, you will guide junior team members. You will be leading discussions and presentations with senior clients, and will actively nurture and relationships with them. You will act as role model, lead by example and leverage your experience. In this role, you report directly to one of the Managing Partners within Ecofys.

This may require international travel depending on the projects you work on.  You will have to prove a good understanding of the specific services Ecofys provides and develop business opportunities accordingly. The successful candidate will also provide support to Ecofys’ for business development activities for the above described services.

Your profile

If you are enthusiastic about the job described above and you meet the following criteria, then we would be happy to meet you!

  • University degree from a leading institution, preferably an advanced degree in energy-related disciplines, natural sciences or an MBA;
  • 8 or more years of relevant professional  experience, for example in management or      strategy consulting, (sustainable) energy and/or with utilities and public clients;
  • Strong content and market focus in the field of carbon pricing policies in general and the EU ETS in particular
  • Proven network with prospective German clients of Ecofys on EU ETS (e.g. Dehst, UBA, BMU, sector representations, corporates)
  • Demonstrated excellence in solving problems that require logical reasoning, creative thinking, strong analytics, and the ability to untangle complex issues;

 

  • Excellent project management skills and experience with managing bigger projects; extensive proposal writing and   presentation skills
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas clearly, and gain the respect of clients and colleagues;
  • Proven ability to lead teams and motivate others to deliver results;
  • Proactive and convincing personality with an edge for coaching and development of others
  • Strong commercially oriented approach and business skills in identifying and exploiting opportunities in a competitive market; proven experience in negotiations with customers
  • Native in  German and Excellent English language skills. Ability to communicate and work fluently in both English and German; knowledge of another language, especially Dutch, French or Spanish, is beneficial, but not required
