Description

The WWF Tigers Alive Initiative (TAI)

The mission of the WWF TAI is to help double the wild tiger population to at least 6,000 by 2022, through conservation in 12 priority landscapes.

The Tigers Alive Initiative is hosted by WWF Malaysia in their Petaling Jaya office close to Kuala Lumpur. The Senior Communications Manager will be part of the multi-national core team of the Initiative mandated to lead and coordinate the Initiative across the WWF Network and in partnership with TRAFFIC.

This exciting position offers a unique opportunity to make a tremendous impact in the conservation of one of the most magnificent species in the world. It is a highly dynamic role, allowing for constant interaction with various levels of people within and beyond the WWF-network, including tiger conservationists on the ground and high level newsmakers elsewhere. The position encourages creativity of thought and process, with a large resource pool of photographs and human interest stories to work with. This is one of the most exciting and fulfilling communication jobs in conservation, with the added bonus of travel to some of the most unique landscapes as well as various great capitals of the world.

Purpose of the Job:

The purpose of this job is to develop, coordinate and implement successful communications strategies that highlight the transformative work done by the TAI with the media, the public and important political leaders, and to use effective communication approaches including digital media to develop a constituency for tiger conservation through effective campaigns and support for advocacy efforts.

Reporting to the TAI leader and working closely with the rest of the TAI regional team, as well as communicators and fundraisers across the WWF-network, the Senior Communications Manager will be expected to:

1. Develop, lead and implement a vibrant, dynamic and holistic communications strategy that will focus global attention to the plight of the tiger and highlight the transformative work done by the Tigers Alive Initiative (TAI).

2. Develop a constituency for tiger conservation through effective global campaigns and support for advocacy efforts, making creative use of the digital media as a communications platform.

3. Both of the above purposes will entail successful engagement with the media, the public and important political leaders using effective communication approaches including the digital and print media.

4. The Senior Communications Manager will also lead and coordinate the delivery of internal and external communications for the WWF TAI that helps to support fundraising for tiger conservation and secure conservation wins, which will in turn strengthen WWF’s global profile.

d. The candidate will have a proven track record in successful international communications strategies and activities undertaken in a multi-cultural setting, coupled with the ability to anticipate and capitalise on opportunities and achieve high profile results.
