The Campaigner will work with the Climate & Energy team towards achieving Greenpeace’s decarbonised energy pathway . He/she will specifically be engaged in achieving the objective of removing the social sanction from coal by exposing the true cost of coal as against renewables and energy effeciency measures.
Currently 67 percent of India's total electricity is from coal fired power plants, and additional proposed plants will lead to the doubling of CO2 emissions from the power sector in India. This will push India to the third slot just behind USA and China from the current fifth position in overall CO2 emissions.
Greenpeace’s role will be to challenge the government on the basis of technological feasibility of renewable energy and the opportunity to access technology and money through clean development mechanisms.

The Campaigner will initially work on the ‘Cut Coal’ project but may also be involved in other ongoing and proposed projects within the Climate Campaign.
Tasks
Conceptual development: Collaboration in the development of political objectives, strategies and tactics for the project and Campaign.
Implementation: Organisation and implementation of project and Campaign work. Representation of the organization: Participation in national and international conferences related to the issue. Lobby work with politicians and business
