Job Title: Senior Campaign Representative, Our Wild America

Reports To: Senior Director, Our Wild America Campaign
Context: Provides primary leadership in advancing the Permanent Protections Initiative, with a particular initial focus on the National Monuments Campaign. Convenes stakeholders to develop, implement and evaluate strategies to achieve desired outcomes.
Scope: The Senior Campaign Representative has overall program responsibility and provides experienced strategic and fundraising leadership to build and implement the Permanent Protections Initiative. Serves as the staff co-lead for the Permanent Protections Delivery Team. Manages and monitors expenses, assigns priorities, develops work plans in collaboration with stakeholders such as Communications, Organizing, Law Program, Federal Policy, Chapters and Digital Strategies. Evaluates the success of the Initiative using tools such as Managing for Results. Evaluates changing conditions and modifies plans accordingly. Acts as a trusted advisor to staff colleagues and volunteers.
Job Activities:
- Along with the volunteer co-lead, convenes meetings and develops agendas that allow stakeholders to engage in planning, implementing and monitoring effective strategies. Oversees implementation and program budget/expenses. Evaluates changing conditions and modifies plans accordingly. Evaluates the success of the campaign or program goals.
- Supports the Senior Campaign Director and the Advancement Department in cultivating and developing effective relationships with donors and foundations. Provides regular update reports to key funders. Develops funding proposals to support and expand the Initiative.
- Advances the Sierra Club’s diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives by incorporating into Initiative plans.
- Effectively engages and deploys senior staff and volunteers on behalf of the Initiative.
- Build relationships and collaborate with other national organizations working to secure permanent protections of wild places. Maintain knowledge and understanding of best practices, emerging trends and the overall political landscape around these issues.
- As appropriate, partner with the National Political Program in developing strategies to reach political program objectives. Assures compliance with election laws and regulations.
- Performs miscellaneous projects and duties as assigned.
Knowledge & Skills:
-- B.A./B.S. degree in Environmental Studies, Political Science, or a closely related field; or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
-- 3-5 years' experience in a comparable position which includes substantial experience planning and managing grassroots conservation campaigns, including strategy, grassroots organizing, lobbying, media, working with volunteers, budget planning and management and work with political leaders.
-- Expert knowledge within the environmental field, which includes in-depth knowledge and background in specific issue areas of the environmental field applicable to the conservation campaign.
-- Excellent demonstrated written and oral communication skills. Demonstrated public speaking and media presentation ability.
-- Substantial experience and demonstrated ability and effectiveness working with volunteers.
-- Extensive travel required.
-- Valid driver’s license, satisfactory driving record, and proof of auto insurance required.
This position is represented by a collective bargaining unit and is subject to the terms and conditions of the contract between Sierra Club and John Muir Local.
