ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Senior Campaign Advisor serves as a campaign and advocacy strategist to The Nature Conservancy state chapters and partner groups on ballot measures, issue campaigns, and lobbying initiatives. Campaigns will include efforts to dedicate new public funding for land and water conservation, efforts to support clean energy and energy efficiency, funding and policy for natural infrastructure, and conducting opposition campaigns against anti-conservation measures. Geographic focus will be the Northeast, Midwest, Mid-Atlantic, as well as federal campaigns. Requires ability to consultant and provide advice on a wide variety of influence tools, including campaign strategy, polling, message development, coalitions, grassroots and grasstops strategies, lobbying strategy, voter databases, targeting, field strategy, media, digital tactics, and other advocacy tools.

SPECIFIC DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for helping state chapters win public funding or policy for conservation through the ballot box or through lobbying campaigns.
  • Defend existing funding and policy programs, and implement targeted public education campaigns to increase public support for conservation.
  • Manage relationships with state chapters and partners.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in political science, public policy, government relations or related field and 5 years experience, including experience working on legislative, candidate, issue, or ballot measure campaigns.  Equivalent combination of education and experience acceptable.
  • Experience with modern campaign and advocacy tools and tactics.
  • Experience working with current political and conservation issues at the national and state level.
  • Experience developing, directing and managing multiple projects and implementing strategic program goals.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in political science, public policy, government relations or related field; 5-7 years of experience, including experience working on legislative, candidate, issue, or ballot measure campaigns.  Equivalent combination of education and experience acceptable.
  • Knowledge of current political and conservation trends and issues at the federal and state level, especially in the Northeast, Midwest, and Mid- Atlantic regions of the United States.
  • Successful experience in developing, directing and managing multiple projects at the same time.
  • Experience or familiarity with campaign planning, management, and strategy.
  • Familiarity with advocacy tools and tactics, such as polling, targeting, voter databases, digital tactics, etc.
  • Excellent writing, speaking, and presentation skills
