The European Climate Foundation (ECF) was founded in 2008 as a major philanthropic initiative to help tackle climate change by fostering the development of a low-carbon society at the national, European and global level.

We support over 280 partner organisations to carry out activities that contribute to the public debate on climate action, drive urgent and ambitious policy in support of the objectives of the Paris Agreement and help deliver a socially responsible transition to a net-zero emissions economy and sustainable society in Europe and around the world.

Position

The DIA program manager role is a newly created position that systematises a function the programme has performed which is exceptionally highly valued. The programme has been building and developing a field of partners who have pioneered ‘applied’ research in the field of coal and electricity sector data provision. The programme has also built an exceptional reputation for providing to all our constituencies the highest quality data and analysis and a comprehensive overview of our subject area. As such our partners see us as a peer able to assist their work and analysis. This in turn has enabled advocacy and resource decisions to flow into the most important areas. This new role will work with an inspiring set of partner organisations to build their strategies and capabilities and to hold the space between these partners to align efforts, identify  new areas that need to be developed and maintaining a monitoring role on the trends and developments on coal and electricity worldwide for a community of foundations who make decisions based on the facts we present and interpret.

Key responsibilities

  • To manage a programme of grants to strategic partners working on data and analysis on coal, electricity and climate. To co-develop strategies with these partners, assess the needs of the cause and the field, scan developments in this area and recommend strategic approaches, grants and initiatives to the International Energy Programme Director.
  • Provide professional advice and guidance on data analysis to internal and external stakeholders, using judgement and creativity to suggest the most appropriate course of action.
  • Investigate and undertake detailed data analysis and monitoring in order to be a focal point for foundations on data and analysis. to provide an annual comprehensive report on the programme’s subject area and periodic updates on trends.
  • Create clear visual presentations to be used with the programme’s constituencies (peers, funders, governments, thinks tanks/NGOs etc). This constituency have exceptionally high expectations of professional quality of analysis and presentation.

Requirements

Experience and competencies

  • You have a university degree in science, technology, engineering or social science with qualifications relevant to analysis, data and statistics.
  • Specifically you must be able to demonstrate through your academic or professional experience that you are capable of understanding energy economics and modelling.
  • You have a minimum of 5 years’ professional experience, of which at least 3 years as an analyst or researcher;
  • You are able to interpret, analyse and present qualitative and quantitative data sets and give advice and guidance to internal and external partners;
  • You are able to communicate conceptually detailed and complex information effectively and professionally within a multi-functional team and to a broad range of internal and external partners;
  • You enjoy working independently and interfacing with multiple stakeholders;
  • You are naturally curious and a good listener;
  • You build trust quickly with all your contacts;
  • You have a critical eye with attention to detail and you believe in continuous improvement;
  • You have good written and verbal communications skills;
  • You are a high skilled user of excel and PowerPoint and preferably also of other applications relevant to energy modelling and economics;
  • You are fluent in English.
