Senior Analysts
Climate Directorate

Vacancy 1493
Closing Date:  5pm, Monday 14 October 2013

Robust evidence for policy

This is an opportunity to work in a high performing Ministry, providing the strong evidence base critical for delivering robust environmental policy advice.  The Climate Change Analysis team is an integral part of the Climate Directorate, connecting science, statistics, research and evaluation with the policy challenges in climate change.  We ensure sound science and evidence underpin decision-making and that New Zealand meets its greenhouse gas reporting obligations.

We are seeking two experienced senior analysts who can bring an analytical perspective to bear on environmental information.  Whether by interpreting relevant climate change science, exploring different dimensions to policy questions, or by delivering econometric forecasts and modelling products, you will help build the evidence base that supports policy development in the area of climate change.

You will be part of the team responsible for the modelling and forecasting of New Zealand's greenhouse gas emissions, providing an evidence base to support our position in international negotiations on climate change, and informing domestic policy settings on a range of emerging natural resource issues.

These are permanent positions in a high-performing team. As the ideal candidate you will have:

•   excellent oral and written communication skills

•   strong stakeholder engagement skills

•   strong analytical and research skills

•   an ability to adapt to changing priorities.

You will also have at least one of the following:

•   a high degree of comfort working with quantitative data and the ability to work with models

•   experience in communicating and translating science and in maintaining relationships with science providers.

Ideally you will have a post-graduate degree in a relevant discipline and at least five years relevant experience.  While this does not need to be in climate change it would be an advantage.
