The European Joint Undertaking for ITER and the Development of Fusion Energy or 'Fusion for Energy' is a type of European organisation known as a Joint Undertaking created under the Euratom Treaty by a decision of the Council of the European Union.

'Fusion for Energy' is established for a period of 35 years from 19th April 2007 and is situated in Barcelona, Spain. The organisation has the following Members which can be likened to “shareholders”:

  • Euratom, represented by the European Commission;
  • the Member States of Euratom;
  • third countries which have concluded cooperation agreements with Euratom in fusion that associate their respective research programmes with the Euratom programmes and which have expressed their wish to become Members.

The current Members are therefore the 27 Member States of the European Union, Euratom and, in the near future, Switzerland as a third country. Each Member sits in the Governing Board – the main body which supervises the Joint Undertaking. The Director is the Chief Executive Officer responsible for day-to-day management of the organisation

JOB DESCRIPTION
As a member of the ITER Department of ‘Fusion for Energy’, the Senior Engineer will report directly to the Head of Site, Building and Power Supplies Division. He/She will implement and follow-up all the contracts necessary for the construction of the ITER building and ITER site preparation, according to the general specifications received from the ITER International Organisation.

RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate will, among other tasks:
Support procurement activities for the ITER construction by:

Ensuring all interfaces among the various subjects that have an impact on the construction works and on the construction company;

Assuming the role of expert adviser concerning technical matters;

Preparing a technical evaluation of all studies at all stages, schematic design, basic design and final design, tender documents and site management;

Highlighting all conflict coming from trade’s interfaces;

Checking documents prepared by the layout team and managing all validation processes;

Validating technical tender documents and requirements;

If necessary, temporarily substituting the lay out team and producing urgent documents;

Preparing and handling official correspondence deemed relevant to manage the contracts;

If necessary, and as approved directly by the Head of Site, Buildings and Power Supplies Division, being the delegated authority for specific pre-defined tasks or actions;

Ensuring the effective transmission of information (technical and contractual data) to the Head of Site, Buildings and Power Supplies Division;

Advising the layout team on the preparation of detail design drawings in relation to the customary practices of civil works contractors;

Coordinating, managing and training a team of engineers and other technical staff in the execution of the above tasks.
