The Role

The Senior Advisor – Sustainable Pulp, Paper & Packaging will provide technical leadership in the subject area to WWF’s network teams and within its forest sector platforms, and lead the development, application and promotion of engagement of the sector on core issues.
This role is responsible for the evolution and development of WWF’s corporate engagement tools and approaches related to pulp, paper & packaging, including the current Check Your Paper tool, and the Environmental Paper Company Index.  It will provide service to set objectives outlined in the Mondi partnership responsible sourcing workstream and contribute to the surfacing and leadership of effective approaches on core topics including: leadership in management of plantations for pulp & paper production; efficiencies, performance and transparency in the sector; and promotion of responsible paper and packaging production, use and consumption.

Main Responsibilities

  • Tracks globally significant developments in sustainability of pulp, paper and packaging, and leverages this knowledge to increase effectiveness in the design and implementation of WWF interventions for sector change, including via network offices
  • Provides strategic advice, technical input, and support to the WWF offices working on sectoral issues, and their engagement with sector players
  • Engages with external partners, standard processes and policy dialogues on sustainability in the manufacturing and use of pulp, paper and packaging
  • Supports the effective implementation of WWF’s forest sector engagement platforms, partnerships and tools to help deliver the Forest * Practice goal and outcomes
  • Promotes engagement with relevant partners and platforms, and coordinates WWF representation at key meetings/workshops and International fora


Required qualifications, skills & competencies

  • A degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. natural resources, forestry, business, public policy, economics)
  • Excellent knowledge of natural resource management and sustainability, with at least 10 years of relevant senior professional experience in forestry, including expertise on pulp, paper and packaging; and corporate sustainability
  • Fully conversant with issues related to sustainable forest management, land-use choices, circular economy and corporate sustainability
  • Experience in convening and coordinating virtual communities in an international environment (particularly an NGO) would be a strong advantage
  • Experience in partnership relations management, with diverse external stakeholders in the environment, corporate and government sectors
  • Excellent written and oral skills in English, and any other languages an asset
