Job/Research Summary This position involves a combination of technical work and section management as follows: 15% management of the Technology Systems Analysis Section within SEAC and 85% charged to analysis tasks. This person will report to the Technology Systems and Sustainability Analysis Group Manager and be part of the overall SEAC management team.
Job Duties This position requires strong analysis skills consistent with the range of support provided by the Technology Systems Analysis Section, as well as strong interpersonal skills. Additionally, the Manager II responsibilities will include:
• First line of connection between the Section staff and higher levels of management .
• Ongoing project and technical consultation and advice.
• Contribute to the continued development and implementation of the Center strategic plan at the section level. 
• Works with group manager to develop and implement group mission, vision, and goals.
• Detailed planning with staff members for coverage, career development and training.
• With GM, referee for task planning as needed.
• Support the group manager (GM) in the hiring process as required.
• Conducts performance appraisals and provides input to senior management in Center. Documents and addresses disciplinary issues as necessary. 
• First line of support for employee issues.
• Work with GM in liaison with other NREL groups and outside clients.
• Assist in team building.
• Assist in the identification of publication goals, in identification of reviewers for task products, and in review process.
• Guide and mentor staff in career development, both informally and formally.
• Day to day supervision of staff to maintain appropriate task assignments and workloads.
• Supports career development. Provides coaching and mentoring.
• Promotes and models ethical and professional behavior and a diverse work environment. 
• Maintains compliance with laws, ES&H requirements, contractual requirements, and NREL policies and procedures.
Required Education and Experience Previous management and budget adherence experience may be required. Degree in appropriate field may also be required.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Attributes Demonstrated knowledge of legal and ethical management issues and practices. In-depth knowledge of the issues and best practices in the applicable field of expertise. Generally viewed as subject matter expert for group or work units.

Excellent organization, project management, budgeting, interpersonal and communication skills. Proven problem-solving and negotiation skills. Demonstrated ability to make appropriate decisions regarding work activities and projects. Demonstrated ability to effectively lead and direct personnel with diverse skills, work styles and values.
Additional Required Knowledge, Skills and Attributes Strong expertise in energy conversion technologies, particularly those for the electric and transportation sectors. Previous experience with technoeconomic analysis, economic competitiveness, resource assessment and optimal use, manufacturing, and/or environmental analysis. Background in task management similar to the analysis tasks conducted at NREL. Strong interest in personnel management. Desire to help set strategic directions for the group and the Center. 

Demonstrated experience in renewable energy project definition and implementation. Demonstrated experience in generating and maintaining successful collaborations.

Experience in project management of moderately complex and/or impact projects. Excellent interpersonal communication, organization, and conflict resolution proficiency. Experience with mentoring colleagues and staff. Demonstrated ability to effectively lead and direct personnel with diverse skills, work styles and values.
Preferred Qualifications Critical thinker and problem solver with proven leadership or management experience. Prior personnel management experience.
