The Ribble Rivers Trust is the lead partner in the Ribble Life Together project, which is a catchment scale project delivering a range of activities to improve the condition, management and awareness of the Ribble Catchment. The project brings together over 20 stakeholder and interest groups to deliver a catchment action plan that will bring immediate and lasting benefits for people and the environment.

Ribble Rivers Trust uses a robust scientific approach to catchment conservation and is guided by local knowledge, the experience of the Ribble Life Partnership Board, as well as the outcomes of monitoring, evaluation and surveys.

As such we are looking to recruit Seasonal Survey Assistants (2) to aid in the collection of field survey data ranging from ecological surveys of vegetation, invertebrates and fish, to water chemistry and habitat surveys.

The successful candidate will have experience of environmental surveying, including design, data collection and data entry.

The seasonal survey assistant will be responsible for;

  1. Collecting field survey data as directed by the Catchment Science Coordinator
  2. Undertake data entry into appropriate databases
  3. Working alongside volunteers to provide support and training
  4. Contribute to the production of publicity and marketing media of the project
  5. Any other duties as required by the RRT.

The role will be based from the RRT offices in Clitheroe but will be expected to work across the catchment.

Person Description

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate that they are exceptionally self motivated and are passionate about the environment and the use of data and evidence in conservation. They must also be a good communicator with experience in teamwork. A good knowledge of the Ribble Catchment and the functioning of river catchments will also be beneficial.

Essential

  1. Valid driving licence and own car insured for business use
  2. Knowledge and experience of a range of catchment processes and how they interact
  3. Knowledge and experience of ecological monitoring and surveys (preferably aquatic)
  4. Experience and qualification in data entry and statistical analysis
  5. Training and/or experience in (preferably ArcGIS)
  6. Ability to work on the differing tasks identified in the Job Description at the same time
  7. Excellent presentation skills and communication skills for a wide range of audiences
  8. Possessing good interpersonal skills, both face-to-face and over the phone
  9. Reliability, good attendance and work performance
  10. Ability to set performance objectives and ensure these are achieved
  11. Excellent organisational / admin skills and attention to detail
  12. Good IT skills / maintaining a filing system
  13. Keeping records of work undertaken
  14. Keeping records of expenses incurred
  15. Awareness of the need for confidentiality

Desirable

  1. Degree or equivalent experience in environmental management (preferably aquatic sciences)
  2. Knowledge of the project area
