POSITION SUMMARY
Assist TNC staff in the removal of non-native plant species, native seed collection and planting, and help carrying out basic tasks in prescribed fire operations statewide.  Although the majority of duties will be carried out in and around the Grand River/Skiff Lake conservation areas (located near Liberty, ten miles south of Jackson, MI), the applicant should expect to spend some time on other sites in southeast Michigan.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Seasonal Restoration Assistant participates in preserve operations, maintenance and management.  This may include one or more of the following functions:
• Maintains preserve areas frequented by the visiting public
• Removes exotic species
• Maintains tools and equipment
• Opens and closes preserve to the visiting public
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
• High school diploma and 6 months of related experience
• Experience operating various types of equipment.
• Experience performing physical work.
ADDITIONAL JOB INFORMATION
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
1. Proven related field work experience and/or working towards a degree in conservation 
    biology or related field is required.
2. Work under extreme winter weather conditions and willingness to apply herbicide to treat
    stumps required.
4. Ability to work efficiently with minimum supervision; strong organizational and
    communication skills; creativity in problem solving.
5. Familiarity with Michigan's flora and fauna preferred.
6. Demonstrated related ecological restoration expertise.
7. Experience with Microsoft Excel and GPS units is desirable.
8. Prescribed fire experience, preferred but not required.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL EFFORT:
1. Ability and willingness to work under adverse conditions in the field, including winter weather
    extremes, and traversing rough terrain.
2. Must be able to provide own transportation to and from Grand River/Skiff Lake fens (about 10
    miles south of Jackson, MI).
