Type: Temporary
Location: Fine Foundation Marine Centre, Kimmeridge
Salary:  £6.50 per hour, 21 hours per week

Dorset Wildlife Trust is looking for two motivated individuals to engage with visitors, user groups and the local community at Studland.  The seagrass meadows of Studland Bay have become recognised as one of Dorset’s key marine habitats and were included as part of one of 127 sites around England put forward to become Marine Conservation Zones.  The role of these posts is to raise awareness of the value and sensitivity of the marine wildlife of Studland Bay and to engage people in learning about and supporting the conservation of marine wildlife.  In addition it is aimed at informing boat users about the need for responsible anchoring and mooring in the bay to minimise damage to the seagrass beds.  Kayaks will be used to approach boat visitors on the water.  Data gathered will be used to help inform future management of the site.

The posts may be of particular interest to students looking for the opportunity to gain experience of marine conservation, education and awareness-raising through summer employment. Some of the work will be carried out on the water so experience of sailing and/or kayaking would be useful. Use of own transport will be required and a mileage allowance will be payable for any business travel.

Our ideal candidate will have experience in meeting and engaging people and knowledge of the marine environment and conservation issues. Familiarity with sailing/boating would be an advantage. They should be dedicated, flexible and adaptable in their approach to work with an easy going, friendly and approachable manner.

This work is part funded through PANACHE a European funded cross-Channel project looking at the management and monitoring of marine protected areas.
