General Position Summary:

Positions will support a wide range of ongoing and future projects in MB&G’s Environmental Services Group. This announcement is for 2 or more hourly/seasonal positions. Hourly/seasonal positions may be converted to salaried/permanent depending on job performance. The successful candidates will support various field and office-based projects focused on wetlands, water quality, fisheries, forestry, wildlife, and associated environmental permitting. The projects are typically distributed throughout the Pacific Northwest and are managed from our Portland, OR office.

Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities:

Tasks completed by a successful candidate may include wetland delineations, water quality monitoring, wildlife habitat assessments and monitoring, wetland and biology mitigation site monitoring and maintenance prescriptions, plant and animal surveys, erosion and sediment control inspections, preparation of technical reports and environmental permit applications, and data management.

Work Environment:

These positions will require working effectively in the field and in an office environment in downtown Portland, OR. Overnight travel will be required to project sites. The successful candidates will complete fieldwork and subsequent reporting in a timely manner with minimal supervision.

Required Job Skills:

Ø  Proficient computer skills in: Microsoft Office.

Ø  Excellent written and oral communication.

Ø  Enthusiastic, energetic, team-oriented individual.

Education and/or Experience:

Ø  B.S. in aquatic or wildlife science/biology, ecology, zoology, environmental science, or natural resource related field.

Ø  2-3 years fieldwork experience in applied science/biology, water quality sampling, fisheries, wildlife management, habitat assessment/restoration, and/or freshwater or upland ecologyrequired. Fieldwork experience such as water quality monitoring, and/or biological resource data collection, and/or biological resource surveys is required. Analysis of technical data using spreadsheet, database, statistical, graphics, and other computer program tools is required.

Ø  Familiarity with electronic field mapping and data collection equipment including Trimble data recorders and ArcPad software desired.

Ø  Experience in preparing biological resource reports and mitigation plans desired.

Ø  Familiarity with OR DSL, USACE, NMFS, ODFW, USFWS, EPA, and OR DEQ regulations and policies desired.

Ø  Previous experience with regulatory agency consultations and negotiations desired.

Job Conditions:

Work is performed both within the field and in the office. Fieldwork will be performed in all weather conditions, perhaps in rough terrain, in a variety of the following settings: along steep banks of rivers and streams, in-water wading/snorkeling/electrofishing, relatively remote areas, operating small watercraft, construction sites around heavy machinery and power generation project sites (hydroelectric or wind). 

Regular overnight travel will be required, particularly during the field season (lodging and meals to be provided while traveling). Position will require extensive computer use, physical ability to operate a telephone and computer and sit for extended periods of time, physical ability to traverse rough terrain, occasionally may lift/carry up to 40 pounds.
