Overview:
I.M. Systems Group, Inc. (IMSG) www.imsg.com is currently seeking to hire a highly motivated Scientist/Marine Biologist/Analyst (as Operations Manager) to support NOAA’s Coral Reef Watch (CRW, see http://coralreefwatch.noaa.gov) program in Silver Spring, MD. CRW is a component of NOAA’s Coral Reef Conservation Program (CRCP), which supports effective management and sound science to preserve, sustain and restore valuable coral reef ecosystems, and NOAA’s Center for Satellite Applications and Research (STAR), which is designing a collaborative environment for algorithm development and applications research based on data from satellite remote sensing. The Operations Manager will be tasked with daily operations of CRW’s US and Australian offices, coordination of CRW product development and operational monitoring, technical support for CRW projects, publications, and program support for CRW, STAR, outreach, and international partnerships.
Duties:
  • Coordinate CRW office, including reporting and clearances, NOAA and STAR taskers, meeting scheduling, proposal development, strategic planning, and work flow tracking.
  • Coordinate partnerships, including collaborations with NOAA, other Federal, academic, and international partnerships.
  • Coordinate education and outreach efforts and develop outreach materials and trainings.
  • Coordinate, edit, review, and track manuscripts.
  • Develop and track milestones, budgets, and procurements.
  • Develop CRW website content.
Qualifications:
  • Required Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree (strongly preferred) or Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline such as marine science, biological or physical oceanography, remote sensing, or environmental management.
  • One-three years experience in operations management.
  • Familiarity with NOAA or experience working in other government agencies.
  • Familiarity with ecosystem management issues.
  • Strong verbal and writing skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated energetic strategic thinker.
  • Ability to work well individually and cooperatively with a range of individuals.
  • Ability to work on several projects simultaneously and to shift priorities as needed.
  • Technical proficiency with Microsoft Office programs.
Qualifications:

  • Experience with writing and publishing articles for scientific and general audiences.
  • Familiarity with coral reef ecosystem and climate change issues.
  • Experience with use and interpretation of satellite remote-sensing data.
  • Experience with development of remote sensing products and/or applications. The Operations Manager will be required to travel to scientific conferences and other relevant meetings.
