Nansen Environmental Research Centre (India) (NERCI), established in 1999 at Cochin is an Indo-Norwegian joint research partnership, and is registered in India under the Ministry of Company Affairs as a non-profit centre engaged in research and extension in Environmental and Climate related topics.  NERCI handles basic and applied research projects in ocean and atmospheric sciences funded by national and international agencies. It also promotes education and interaction with institutes in India and abroad with main research focus on Indian monsoon and ocean variability, climate change, sea leavel variations, marine ecosystem studies with focus on forcing mecahnisms, Coastal zone management and societal issues. NERCI’s scientific research advisory board consists of eminent scientists from India and abroad.  It also has exchange programmes with Cochin University of Science and Technology, Kochi, Anna University, Chennai and Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services, Hyderabad.

NERCI invites applications for the post of SCIENTIST under Monsoon and Ocean variability, Climate Change Group to be based at Cochin.

Salary within range Rs.30,000-40,000/-pm (consolidated) initially depending on qualification and experience. After completion of probation and assessment period of one year, the candidate will be appointed as a permanent scientist at NERCI with benefits like annual increment, pension fund and medical insurance and eligible leave.

Liable to be deputed to any of the centres of Nansen Group (Norway, Russia, China and S. Africa) for short term research.

Age limit: Below 40 years as on 01/01/2011.
Area of Specialisation: Physical oceanography /Meteorology.

Essential Qualification: M. Sc / M. Tech  (Physical Oceanography / Meteorology/ Atmospheric Sciences/ Ocean Technology) with minimum 60% marks or 6.5 CGPA on a 10 point grading system and  Ph. D in related field.

Experience:

1)      Minimum 2 yrs of research/working experience in the application of Ocean and Climate modelling with a strong background in computer programming using Ferret/GMT, MATLAB/IDL on Linux & Windows platforms.

2)      The candidate should have publications in refereed journals.

Job Requirement:

Design projects and work programmes independently and associate with in-house projects, coordinate with other similar research centres in India and abroad in these areas of research. Compile reports and publish scientific articles in reputed national / internationaljournals.
