The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) Experimental Materials Science Group in the Chemical and Materials Science Center has an opening for a full time (40 hours per week) Scientist II position. NREL is located at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Golden, Colorado and is the nation’s primary laboratory for research, development and deployment of renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies.
The research position is designated for the design and characterization of novel materials including new ionic conductors, novel metal oxides, carbon nanotubes and nanostructured materials or composites. Material synthesis techniques include chemical vaporization, as well as sputter/evaporation and pulsed laser deposition. Additional responsibilities include the fabrication of electrodes and testing electrochomic, and lithium-ion anode/cathode performance(s). Finally, the assembly of new analytical facilities is also required.
Relevant Master's Degree or equivalent relevant education/experience.

Or, relevant Bachelor's Degree and 2 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience.
General knowledge and application of scientific technical standards, principles, theories, concepts and techniques.

Training in team, task or project leadership responsibilities. Intermediate abilities and knowledge of practices and techniques. Beginning experience in project management. Good technical writing, interpersonal and communication skills.
Background in nanostructured materials synthesis and electrochemistry relevant to batteries and electrochromic windows.
Ph.D. in Chemistry or Materials Science.
