Terrestrial and Nearshore Ecosystems

APS Level 6

Non-ongoing until 30 June 2015

Salary: $74,729 - $84,478 pa

Duties: The Scientific Officer-Human Impacts Synthesis will work as part of a multidisciplinary team of scientists in support of the Human Impacts Stream within the Terrestrial and Nearshore Ecosystems Theme. The Scientific Officer will work on a project to synthesise data and published research to form a comprehensive work for publishing, including on-line. The synthesis will include a review of human impacts in Antarctica covering tourism, disease, contamination, risk assessment and emerging threats, and strategies for minimising impacts through mitigation and remediation.

The Scientific Officer will be responsible for managing the project under limited guidance, including liaising with contributors and publishers, writing scientific technical drafts, preparing figures and tables, and editing work from many contributors. The Scientific Officer will also coordinate and prepare scientific contributions from the Terrestrial and Nearshore Ecosystems program for the annual meeting of the Committee for Environmental Protection (CEP) of the Antarctic Treaty.
