Would you be a part of a team developing new approaches to climate modelling and delivering climate change information to society an researchers? Please read on!

The Rossby Centre works across the spectrum of global and regional climate modeling, analysis of climate change and climate variability and research into climate change impacts. A Scientific leader is sought to lead the development and implementation of a long-term research strategy for the Rossby Centre. We seek a climate scientist with extensive experience in one or more of the following; (i) global and regional climate modelling, (ii) analysis of observations and climate model output or (iii) climate variability and change. The successful candidate will be well established at international levels and exhibit outstanding potential to further develop climate research at the Rossby Centre, aligned with priority areas, both nationally within Sweden and at European and international levels. The successful candidate will be expected to provide science leadership to the Rossby Centre and act as a mentor for younger scientists in the group.

This position is advertised in parallel with recruitment of a new group head for the Rossby Centre. The latter position constitutes the formal head of the Rossby Centre, with responsibility for personnel and budgetary matters, as well as SMHI internal collaboration across climate science. The position of Scientific leader emphasizes science and research leadership, ensuring the Rossby Centre maintains a high visibility in national and international climate research. It will be important that the Scientific leader and Group Head work closely and synergistically together.

The position is permanent and will be located at SMHI in Norrköping, Sweden. 

Your profile

We seek an experienced climate scientist with a strong and documented international standing. The successful candidate will have a PhD in climate science/meteorology/oceanography or a related discipline. Extensive experience in climate model development and application will be highly beneficial, as will documented experience in leading major climate research projects. Fluency in oral and written English is required, along with a willingness to learn Swedish.
