NCS_T156_n01: Scientific Analyst (Ocean Color Validation) Part-Time Position

I.M. Systems Group, Inc. (IMSG) (www.imsg.com) is looking for highly motivated individuals to join our team efforts to support NOAA/NESDIS/Center for SaTellite Applications Research (STAR).  IMSG supports STAR in applied science research and development efforts in a semi-research and semi-operational working environment along with U.S. government scientists, visiting scientists, and other contractors.  

This position is to provide part time science and technical support to work associated with the Coastal Optical Characterization Experiment including research and science associated with ocean color validation measurements. 

 Duties:

  • Assist in the analysis, interpretation and presentation of at-sea bio-optical measurements being conducted in support of the algorithm and validation of space-borne instrumentation. 
  • Assist in data processing, in situ/satellite match-up, administrative, and publications task as required.
  • Provide ocean color validation support
  • Reprocess regional Chesapeake Bay ocean color satellite data
  • Provide continued support of Marine Optical Bouy (MOBY) IDL extraction tool.

 Requirements: 

  • BS or above degree in relevant field
  • Expertise or experience in ocean color validation and product development
  • Knowledge in satellite remote sensing for oceanic applications
  • Experience in data and image processing
  • Fluency in IDL
  • Strong and proven learning ability if lacking the exact science & technical background
  • Good communication skills
  • Good documentation writing and presentation skills
