**IMMEDIATE START REQUIRED**

Barefoot Conservation is a new and exciting, not-for-profit organisation that takes a fresh look at marine conservation and community awareness. All of the Barefoot staff share the same passion for making a real difference at a grass root level on all our projects.

Our focus is grass roots conservation and community action. Our aim is to engage, educate and empower the local community to make sustainable conservation a way of life, not just a project.

We are currently looking for 2 Indonesian Science Officers for our Raja Ampat, West Papua/Indonesia marine conservation project, both with an immediate to 2 weeks starting time .

PRINCIPAL FUNCTION

Under the guidance of the Project Scientist help co-ordinating the Science Training Programme for volunteers
and the daily science survey activities. Assist the PS with data analysis, report writing, project logistics and
administration when needed. Supervise and help train volunteers during the Science Training Programme
including holding some lectures and in water pointy dives.


GENERAL ROLE DESCRIPTION

-Assist the Project Scientist with the development and implementation of the Science Training Programme.

-Organise and supervise the daily science survey programme.

-Help the Project Scientist with bi-monthly project reports and data analysis.

-Supervision and training of volunteers/host country scholars during STP.

-Assist with project logisitics and administration when needed.

-Help teach the Manta Ray Research Programme.

 

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

-Assist the Project Scientist in implementing the Science Training Programme (STP) covering each survey
component of Fish, Corals, Invertebrate and Algaes (Plant life).

-Supervise the volunteers during the daily research/habitat survey program, including undertaking all dive
planning for the science dives (Mon-Fri).

-Under the guidance of the Project Scientist, train & supervise the new volunteers during the STP, including
holding lectures and undertaking in-water pointy dives.

-Assist the Project Scientist in data analysis, supervise the volunteers in the collection and inputting of the
survey and/or Manta Ray data. Help write bi-monthly reports to be emailed back to head office.

-Assist with the Environmental Education community project, hold presentations for the local community, create/organise fun games for the children to educate them about the importance of protecting the environment.

 

TERMS & CONDITIONS

Contract Duration: 6 month contract, with possibility of extension at end of contract term.

Bonus: Up to £1000 per year end of contract bonus, depending on level of experience and
personal/company performance during contract term.

Accommodation/Food: FREE basic accommodation provide at Raja Ampat project site (own room provided).

Travel/Visa: Travel to/from the expedition site must be paid for by the candidate. All visa
extensions will be paid for by Barefoot Conservation.*

Training: FREE PADI EFR, Rescue and Divemaster course's.** Training on Manta Ray research.

** Does NOT include necessary PADI manuals & PIC's (Rescue - £24 & Divemaster - £150 approx)
* Initial Social Visa fee and first renewal must be paid by the candidate
