We are seeking an individual who has the skills to comprehend and synthesise large volumes of scientific information and make this available to a wide range of audiences through clear and concise written and oral communication. The position supports the management of scientific information requirements for the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority. The position also coordinates involvement in the National Environmental Science Program and other science funding bodies. Support is provided more broadly to the Reef 2050 section in achieving outcomes identified in the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority’s strategic documents.

 

THE DUTIES

 

1.Ensure the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority’s science information needs are identified, conveyed to providers and support corporate priorities by:
- Coordinating strategic involvement in the development of the Tropical Water Quality Hub and other relevant hubs of the National Environmental Science Program.
- Coordinating considered involvement and advice to investments made by research funding bodies.
- Managing the Science for Management Awards scheme.
2.Provision of scientific information to the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority by:
- Preparing advanced high quality written material and reports including the provision of expert, timely, practical, transparent and risk-based advice to management, internal and external stakeholders on matters relevant to science coordination and engagement.
- Interpreting, synthesising and disseminating complex scientific information to agency staff.
- Collating, writing, proofreading and editing scientific information required for the development of the five-yearly Outlook Report.
- Managing the science seminar series to promote information sharing internally and with relevant external organisations.
3.Contribute to the work of the Reef 2050 section more broadly, including delivering corporate objectives.
4.Engage, consult and partner with stakeholders and service providers to support the delivery of the corporate priorities, including: 
- establish and maintain effective relationships
- lead and participate in multi-stakeholder groups
- prepare and conduct face-to-face presentations
- represent the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority as required.

 

The Person
- You will have a comprehensive understanding of the science underpinning the management of the Great Barrier Reef.
- You are a natural strategic thinker who considers long-term and future actions.
- You will be experienced in relationship and stakeholder management.
- You have a passion for science and its integration into management.
- You are autonomous and upbeat, and willing to work with small and large teams.

 

Applicants must:
1.Be Australian citizens to be eligible for engagement,
2.The successful applicant must be able to obtain and maintain a BASELINE security clearance; failure to do so will result in termination of employment.  Current GBRMPA employees being promoted or transferred into the role will be offered higher duties pending successfully gaining the clearance.
Mandatory
- Tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience in environmental, marine or social and economic sciences or related disciplines.
Desirable 
- At least five years’ experience in managing or coordinating scientific programs for natural resource management.
