We are seeking an experienced science advisor to join our Science and Technical Group, specialising in marine species and threats. From July 2012, marine conservation science and technical advice across the Department will be provided by two national teams. This role will play a crucial part in establishing the teams and the subsequent development and implementation of relevant work programmes.

To be successful, you will be a highly motivated person capable of providing specialist scientific advice to enable improved understanding and management of natural and cultural heritage. You will be working closely with teams of technical advisors and operational staff to ensure that the knowledge gained is applied in the field. The ability to translate scientific knowledge into practical management actions will be vital. In return, you will have the opportunity to contribute to some very challenging and exciting conservation issues.

The ideal applicant will have strong leadership and project/programme management skills, and a postgraduate qualification in the fields of marine conservation or environmental management.

Experience in working with tangata whenua will be an advantage.
