Description

The successful candidate will support and develop landowner and volunteer engagement to protect red squirrels from replacement by grey squirrels and from squirrelpox disease, in priority landscapes in South West Scotland. They will collect and collate the project’s many data streams, and organise and support the survey scheme to monitor red and grey squirrel distributions across the region.

Applicants should hold a degree in in ecology, biology, geography, countryside management or related discipline. They should be highly motivated and experienced in recruiting, inspiring, training and supporting volunteer groups and individuals to undertake active conservation work.  They should also have the ability to engage the wider public in related conservation issues. 

Experienced in handling large and varied datasets and in carrying out standardised wildlife surveying, the applicant will have a firm grasp of scientific method and report writing, along with excellent organisational skills.

A current driving licence is essential as this post requires independent travel and working in remote locations with sometimes challenging environments.

The position is expected to start as soon as possible and run until the 31 March 2016 with a strong possibility of extension dependent on funding
