CERCOPAN (Centre for Education, Research and Conservation of Primates and Nature) is recruiting for a Primate Sanctuary Manager to start asap. This voluntary position is based at our busy Calabar primate rehabilitation centre (over 120 primates of 6 rainforest species) in southern Nigeria. The successful candidate will support the Director to manage Calabar operations in collaboration with the Head keeper, Education Officer and Veterinary nurse.

We are looking for a highly organised team player with excellent writing and computing skills who is dedicated to wildlife conservation. The ideal candidate will be flexible, patient, amicable and dedicated. They must also have the ability to cope well under stress and to readily master new skills.

Duties include:

  • Assisting with captive management of orphan primates and captive care of 120 primates and Environmental education
  • Line management of 15 Calabar local staff
  • Assisting with writing of blogs, newsletters, proposals and reports
  • General administration
  • Logistics, supply management and problem solving
  • Project Management
  • Accounting, financial management and financial reporting
  • Acting as Deputy to the Director and assisting at Forest site when required


  • Educated to degree level (preferably Masters degree) in conservation/primatology, management, accounting or communications.
  • Strong interest in Conservation/Primates
  • Excellent computing skills (including word,powerpoint,excel)- designing of communication materials a plus
  • Experience working and living in developing countries
  • Primate Care experience
  • Accounting experience
  • Staff management experience
  • Fundraising experience a definite plus


Provisions: Room, board, flights and a local stipend will be paid for a 2 year contract. One year contract may be considered depending upon skills and experience. Visa arrangements, insurance etc. are the responsibility of the volunteer.
