Purpose of the position
Manage Sabal Palm Grove Sanctuary for limited public access. Coordinate volunteer work efforts in the performance of general maintenance and outreach. Oversee sanctuary safety for visitors, staff, and volunteers.
Manage Staff & Team of Volunteers
Supervise Part-time Weekend Naturalist and lead volunteer projects for on-going physical improvements to the sanctuary grounds and facilities.
Maintain budgeted restoration efforts.
Maintain Fiscal Management
Assist in the development and management of an annual budget for the sanctuary
Maintain this budget and seek any approvals for costs above those stated in the approved budget.
Communicate with External Audiences
Work with staff to communicate announcements as needed with various audiences
Maintain partnerships and collaborations with a wide array of partners
Essential Functions
Perform general maintenance on sanctuary vehicles, buildings, trails, grounds, and other equipment.
Recruit, train, and manage volunteers from the community for specific tasks
Maintain security and safe keeping of facility and equipment
Operation of Visitor Center and point-of-sale merchandise
Provide tours and community programs as time permits and/or as needed
Equipment
Competence with computer, copy/fax machines, telephone system
Competence in safe operation of farm tractors and associated equipment
Competence in maintenance of farm tractor, vehicles, other equipment
Competence in operation of: word-working equipment, hand tools, saws, drills, and boat and boat engines.
Qualifications
Supervisory experience
Knowledge of the theory, principles, and methods of wildlife management and related biological disciplines.
Ability to gather and evaluate biological data, and to report findings.
Three to five years professional experience
Problem solver who can take initiative
Public speaking experience
Keen interest in conservation – especially birds and the mission of Audubon
