Marathons

Berlin Marathon 2011

25th September 2011. The Berlin Marathon first started in 13th October 1974 on a minor road next to the stadium of the organisers‘ club SC Charlottenburg Berlin where 286 athletes had entered. One of the first winners, Günter Hallas (2:44:53), still runs the BERLIN-MARATHON today alongside over 40,000 other competitors! It is organised according to the international competition regulations (IWB) of the German Athletics Federation (DLV) and the International Athletics Federation (IAAF) under the supervision of the Berlin Athletics Association (BLV). Why not run the race for the rainforest! If you'd like to run this event for us, please email events@rainforestuk.com or give us a call on +44 (0) 207 485 0193 and we'll get you off and running!

New York Marathon 2011

6th November 2011. The ING New York Marathon is one of the most popular big city marathons in the world, with thousands of runners taking part each year. The first New York City Marathon, in 1970, was four-plus laps of Central Park. In 1976, in celebration of the U.S. bicentennial, NYRR moved the marathon to the streets of New York's five boroughs: Staten Island, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Manhattan. The course united dozens of culturally and ethnically diverse neighborhoods, crossed five bridges, and finished at Tavern on the Green in world-famous Central Park. The course continues to challenge thousands of athletes every year and has become a model for big-city marathon courses around the world. You can see the interactive course map HERE. And better yet, why not run the race for the rainforest! If you'd like to run this event for us, please email events@rainforestuk.com or give us a call on +44 (0) 207 485 0193 and we'll get you off and running!

Virgin London Marathon 2012

22 April 2012. We have a large number of gold bond places for the 2012 Virgin London Marathon, so if you missed out on this year's event or want to register early for next year to secure your place, email events@rainforestuk.com or give us a call on +44 (0) 207 485 0193 and we will send you an application form and info pack to get you off and running! If you have a place in the Marathon but no one to run for and still would like to join our team - welcome! Just email events@rainforestuk.com or give us a call on +44 (0) 207 485 0193 and we'll send you a pack with our vest and info! Considered one of the most popular and exciting events in the global running calendar, the 2011 London Marathon course is flat and fast. It starts in Blackheath, heads east through Charlton and Woolwich for three miles, turns west and passes the Cutty Sark in Greenwich after six to seven miles. It crosses the River Thames at Tower Bridge and then loops around the east end of London, past Canary Wharf in Docklands, before heading west again along the Highway and the Embankment to Parliament Square, Birdcage Walk and the final corner in front of Buckingham Palace.
