Description

Purpose of position Bioversity’s research on forests and trees focuses on the genetic diversity of tree species. We analyze its distribution, what threatens it, how to conserve it, and opportunities for its enhanced use. We are also responsible for ensuring that our research results are taken up and used in ways that lead to outcomes that benefit the people who use the resources as well as the conservation of those resources. It is not always evident when and how gender considerations need to be taken into account to ensure that our research addresses the needs of women as well as men; and that both women and men benefit from our results. The Gender Specialist will be responsible for coordinating gender aspects of our research and related activities in Bioversity’s research on forests and trees within the framework of the CGIAR Research Programme on Forest, Trees and Agroforestry. Duties and responsibilities Based at Bioversity’s Office in Serdang, Malaysia, and under the supervision of the Programme Leader, Forest Genetic Resources, the incumbent will be responsible for the implementation of the following activities: • Provide scientific and methodological coordination of gender analyses in the research area of conservation and sustainable management of forests and trees and their genetic diversity; • Develop and lead the implementation of a strategy for incorporating gender analysis in a programme of research on the conservation and use of trees and their genetic resources and outcome delivery, in line with the Gender strategy of the CGIAR Research Programme on Forest, Trees and Agroforestry; • Develop approaches and tools for implementation of the Gender Strategy in collaboration with gender specialists at partner institutes; • Conduct impact analyses on gender implications of research; • Build strategic partnerships with the other CGIAR centres and other relevant organizations in gender research and advocacy; • Develop and organize training on gender analysis for staff and key partners and guide young scientists in our gender fellowship positions; • Ensure the timely development of concept notes, proposals, communications and reports for a range of donors, working with the Resource Mobilization team.
