Rock Bottom Ranch serves as ACES' mid-valley hub for environmental education, wild-lands preservation, and sustainable agriculture. The 115-acre wildlife preserve and educational ranch is hidden away between the Roaring Fork River and the Crown of Mount Sopris and is located midway between Basalt and Carbondale on the newly completed section of the Rio Grande Trail. Its acreage includes wetlands, spring-fed ponds, a braid of the Roaring Fork River, cottonwood bottom-lands, and a view of the Pinyon Juniper Woodland on adjacent BLM land.

Skills Desired
Interested and enthusiastic about environmental education & farming; self-motivated and a sincere interest in the environment; some experience working in a farm setting with children and the public desired, but not required. 

Educational Opportunities
Mentorship and experience in organic gardening and sustainable agriculture practices. Experiential learning in rotational grazing and raising produce, extensive classes offered at RBR and ACES (like beekeeping, natural building, permaculture, traditional arts) that intern can attend, work permitting.

Internship Details 
Assist in the care & maintenance of a small farm, including chickens, goats, pigs, and gardens. Conduct morning and evening chores consisting of daily care for the animals. Assist with Field Study Center and 113-acre wildlife preserve maintenance and management. We're starting a rotational grazing program this year, as well as a sustainable vegetable growing program. Interns will be working with all aspects of the agriculture program, from meat and vegetable raising to marketing ranch products. You will work 45-60 hours a week, depending on what's going on at the ranch.

Dates of Employment
May 2011 - August 2011
Meals: Ranch produce and products, but no meals included.
Stipend: There will be a stipend, amount soon to come.
Housing: Provided, including utilities. You can also camp if preferred.
