Position Title:  Review and Impact Analysis Officer

INBAR Unit: INBAR Regional Office in Ethiopia   

Reports to: Dr Fu Jinhe – Project Manager

Location: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

Terms of Employment: 6 months consultancy contract, starting no later than May 2013

The project ‘Bamboo for sustainable biomass energy’ works in Ghana and Ethiopia and aims to increase the use of bamboo as a source of energy for the poor of Ethiopia and Ghana thereby providing a more sustainable, environmentally friendly, and economical option to firewood and wood charcoal (http://bioenergy.inbar.int/wiki/index.php/Main_Page). The project is financially supported by the European Union and the Common Fund for Commodities.

As a member of the project team ‘Bamboo for sustainable biomass energy’, the Review and Impact Analysis Officer will play a key role in the internal evaluation of the project, by collecting quantitative and qualitative data on the final project results and analyzing the impact of the project that started in 2009 and will end in October 2013. The Officer will be part of a team of regional and HQ INBAR staff, and work from INBAR’s regional office for East Africa in Addis Ababa.

 

(S)he will

  • Actively collect and compile the results of the project, both quantitatively and qualitatively, through report analysis, site visits and targeted interviews
  • Based on the data provide input to maximize the effectiveness of the exit strategy of the Project
  • Analyze the results of the project to describe the impacts until date, as well as the expected impact and impact pathways of the project
  • Assist with the communication of the results to stakeholders (communities, private sector, policy makers, and general public), through the project website, reports, manuals and other means as appropriate.

 

Required qualifications

  • Educational profile and working experience in development cooperation, project management, and/or review and evaluation
  • Demonstrated experience with project monitoring / evaluation of projects financed by international donors
  • Excellent English speaking, writing and editing skills
  • Effective team worker in a multicultural environment and able to deal with tight deadlines
  • Proven ability to work effectively across societies – from government officials to communities
  • Willingness to travel for data collection to independently to remote areas in Ethiopia and/or Ghana
  • Inspired by the opportunity to work in and to contribute to the effectiveness of an international, public, non-profit organization dedicated to sustainable development
  • Preferably already based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
