The mission of The Nature Conservancy is to preserve the plants, animals and natural communities that represent the diversity of life on Earth by protecting the lands and waters they need to survive.
The Restoration Team Crew Member performs land restoration and management across the Oak Openings Region of NW Ohio. Crew members will assist with implementing restoration management on both TNC-owned and partner lands. Management activities will include mechanical and chemical treatments of invasive species and assisting with prescribed fire operations. Other activities may include assisting with volunteer workdays and trash collection. He/she will be responsible for preparation and maintenance of equipment and work logs used in these management activities. This is a full time, short term position (approximately 6 months from starting date) that involves extensive outdoor physical labor in diverse weather conditions and may require working some weekends. Some travel time will be required for this position, and will be covered at the Conservancy’s expense. The Crew Memberis supervised by the Restoration Crew Leader, does not supervise other staff, but may supervise volunteers. TNC
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Oak Openings Restoration Assistant performs activities including, but not limited to, the following:
Remove woody vegetation by using power equipment such as a chainsaw or brush cutter, or by hand cutting.
Control invasive species using various techniques including herbicide application.
Assist in prescribed fire operations at training and experience level of Fire Fighter Type 2 including, but not limited to, fireline preparation, ignition, implementation, and mop up.
Maintain tools, vehicles, and equipment used in management activities.
Collect workday data and enter in restoration activity database.
