Description

Resource Use Intern
7 May 2014

Internship to start as soon as possible. Based in Brussels, full time, for 6 months.

This is a unique opportunity to join and learn within the Resource use and Consumption Programme of a green NGO working at a European level in Brussels. If you can demonstrate an interest in environmental issues, the ability and willingness to learn fast, we can in return offer you the chance to learn and contribute to the support of FoEE campaigns on issues including climate change, corporate accountability, food and biodiversity.

Work will include supporting the resources and consumption programme, on resource use measurement, beyond GDP and waste issues.

You will be assisting and working alongside the Resource Use campaigner as part of the Resources and Consumption team.

Main topics that will be addressed during the internship

  • Expose the need for Europe to measure its natural resource consumption and set reduction targets. Link this topic with other cross cutting issues such as bioenergy or mining;
  • Analyse and raise awareness about GDP as a sole indicator for progress and how it does not take into consideration people's well being;
  • Highlight how Europe's current management of waste offers false solutions to our current resource crisis;
  • Support local communities in dealing with false solutions on resource use and consumption.

Goals and responsibilities of the position include:

  • Monitor EU policy developments relevant to resource use, waste and beyond GDP topics;
  • Organise internal and external conferences and other events (debates, workshops);
  • Conduct research on the relevant aspects of the campaign;
  • Organise and distribute relevant information to member groups and the wider NGO network;
  • Website updates;
  • Attend Brussels-based and if possible international events on the topic;
  • Support the daily work of the campaign.

Requirements

  • Commitment to the values, vision and mission of Friends of the Earth;
  • Basic knowledge of resource use, consumption, waste and beyond GDP issues;
  • Strong organisational and time management skills;
  • Educated to degree standard;
  • Able to demonstrate a clear aptitude for learning;
  • Excellent organisation and planning skills;
  • Attention to detail;
  • Knowledge of European languages an advantage;
  • Knowledge of EU institutions desirable
  • High levels of motivation, good team player, confident telephone skills, creativity, flexibility, sense of humour, political awareness

The internship will be based in FoEE office, an ecological and energy sustainable building in Brussels - a busy and highly motivating working environment in an international NGO (see www.mundo-b.be)

The intern will be based in our office in Brussels, for 6 months (full-time, 5 days a week).
Remuneration: 850 euro/month

Please send a cover letter explaining how your skills and experience meet the needs of the internship, your CV and contact details for two references by e-mail to: jobs@foeeurope.org

Closing date: midnight 18.05.14

Interviews will take place on the 21 and 22 May.

We regret that only applicants selected for interviews will be contacted.
