Part-time 3 days per week based in Hampshire

Salary £21,100 - £24,885 pa (pro-rata) dependent on experience plus pension contribution

For this unique position, we are looking for a part-time (3 days per week) Reserves Officer to manage our reserves in Hampshire. We have three reserves totalling 130 acres; Magdalen Hill Down and Yew Hill are high quality chalk grassland sites near Winchester, and Bentley Station Meadow adjoins Alice Holt Forest, near Farnham. The reserves are open to the public all the year round, and are recognised for their outstanding Lepidoptera and botanical interest. No fewer than 40 of the county's 46 butterfly species may be seen on these reserves, and their sensitive management for both butterflies and moths is supported by Environmental Stewardship Agreements. All reserves have educational access agreements, and guided walks with people of all ages and backgrounds form a key part of the role.

You will have a proven record of habitat management (particularly grasslands) applied over a minimum of 3 years and a good knowledge of nature conservation in general. An understanding of the ecology of Lepidoptera would be advantageous. The role requires that you have experience of stock grazing and liaising with graziers, as well as finance and budget management. You will be IT literate and hold a full driving licence. Although the role is home-based, you will be required to live within reasonable proximity to the reserves, and will also be expected to work outside normal working hours when required, which may include weekends and evenings. You will have excellent communication skills and be able to coordinate and motivate volunteers. Being qualified in countryside management (or equivalent) and holding relevant practical conservation licences would be an advantage.

Closing date: noon on Wednesday 11 May 2011

Interviews will be held: Friday 3 June at the Parish Hall in Shawford
