Description

The post holder will be based at NWT East Wretham Heath Reserve, in Norfolk, and will have the opportunity to work at other NWT reserves within the Brecks and Fens including Weeting Heath, Thompson Common and Wissey Wetlands, a habitat creation scheme in the Fens.  The Reserves Assistant will be expected to undertake a variety of tasks, including habitat & species management, infrastructure maintenance, and using a variety of machinery. 

The successful candidate will have a good basic knowledge of wildlife conservation and habitat management techniques.  Good communication skills are essential, both with colleagues and members of the public, as is the ability to work as part of a team in managing these important sites.  Ideally the successful candidate will also have been trained in the use of tractors, trailers  ATV, brushcutter, chainsaw, pesticide application and first aid.  Experience of livestock management and ecological monitoring would be an advantage. 

The post presents the opportunity to work on some of the county’s most important wildlife sites, and develop valuable skills in the management of nature reserves and their visitors.
