Researcher

This role may be at a Junior or Senior Researcher level, depending on the experience and professional network that an individual brings to the role.  The following skills and experience are expected of both Junior and Senior Researcher but to a different extent, and with different expectations regarding the responsibilities taken and the level of autonomy.  

Salary: Between £29,046-£34,500 p.a. for a Junior Researcher, or between £35,000-£46,570 p.a. for a Senior Researcher, plus benefits package. 

Contract: 12-month fixed term contract, with potential for an extension. 

(The role is currently envisaged as full time but we are open to applications for a part-time working pattern of at least 3 days/week equivalent)

As the leading trade association for decentralised energy, the Association for Decentralised Energy (ADE) is setting the vision of a local, efficient, low carbon energy system which enables energy users to make the choices which work for them. About the role 

The ADE is recruiting for a Researcher. You will be working on a mixture of long and short-term projects. These teams may be made up entirely of ACE Research and ADE staff, but in many cases also involve staff from other organisations both in the UK and in other countries.  

The candidate will also be expected to collaborate closely with the ADE Policy and External Affairs teams, and across the wider ADE.  

Responsibilities 

In the role, your key responsibilities will be –  

• Undertaking research on a range of topics, using methods including desk-based literature and evidence reviews, raw data gathering and analysis / interpretation of verbal and numerical information, and stakeholder interviews and workshops 
• Project management, including maintaining quality standards and the delivery of work according to agreed schedules and budgets  
• Disseminating our work in a variety of formats  
• Supporting the strategic work of the ADE 
• Supporting our relationships with companies who are members of the ADE  

Person specification  

Essential:

• A qualification or substantial work experience in the field; 
• Excellent numerical skills and descriptive statistics; 
• Excellent written and oral presentation skills and ability to communicate to a wide variety of audiences; and  
• Ability to work well, and at times independently, in a small team environment. 

Desirable:

• This represents a range of skills that strengthen our team, the successful candidate is likely to offer two or more of them.  
• Aptitude for modelling with above-average computer skills, e.g. programming (such as advanced Excel or ‘R’); 
• Knowledge of decentralised energy policies across ADE sectors;   
• Experience of project management; ensuring projects are completed to time and to budget, and experience of handling external contractors; 
• Experience of networking and business development, including responding to Invitations to Tender (ITT) and submission of grant funding applications.
