Researcher

Greenpeace is looking for a researcher to join our Research and Investigations team. The researcher will undertake vital work supporting Greenpeace’s efforts to change attitudes and behaviour, to protect and conserve the environment and to promote peace. .

Research and investigations are the bedrock of Greenpeace’s work. Fully understanding the nature of environmental threats, and exposing the issues behind them is foundational to all Greenpeace campaigns.

The researcher will assist the unit coordinator by sourcing and analysing accurate information and data to support our campaigns. From seeking the latest scientific papers on climate change to collating information on the corporations suspected of environmental crimes. Tasks will be rich, diverse and challenging.

This position will suit a critical thinker who can actively engage with complex issues. A methodical approach to research and meticulous attention to detail are essential. 

A background in science, environment or law is desirable however; creativity and a preparedness to think outside the box, essential.

Tasks:

  • Seeking and retrieving information from disparate sources including:
    o    industry/ government publications
    o    scientific literature
    o    advanced web searches.
    o    databases
  • Processing, analysing and interpreting information using tools such as spreadsheets and possibly databases 
  • Presenting research outcomes in reports

Key Skills or Experience:

  • Methodical approach to research
  • Science, environmental, law background preferred but not essential
  • IT literate (advanced but not programming) e.g. advanced Excel
  • Patience
  • Willing to do repetitive or time consuming research tasks

This is an 11 months full time (35 hours/week) contract based in Sydney.
