Description

The International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT) has an immediate opening for a highly committed, self-motivated person to join us as a full-time researcher. The position will support our efforts towards clean vehicle and fuel policies in Latin America. The primary focus of this position will be to provide technical and policy analysis related to heavy-duty vehicle (HDV) regulations and green freight initiatives in the region.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Support research projects on emerging issues at the intersection of vehicle technology, operations, and environmental policy making with a focus on the reduction of HDV and freight emissions
  • Research, collect, compile, and analyze HDV and freight data from Latin America
  • Develop models for estimating the costs and benefits of HDV and freight emission reduction technologies and strategies; develop quantitative and qualitative analyses of technology and operational strategies to reduce HDV and freight emissions;
  • Write clear, strong technical reports, policy briefings, and articles to summarize ICCT’s research for key stakeholders
  • Engage and collaborate effectively with ICCT staff and key partners worldwide to gather information and communicate relevant findings from ICCT’s research to support policy development
  • Coordinate workshops, invite-only meetings, and other outreach events; present research and conclusions in a range of venues; educate policymakers and journalists in Latin America
  • Where appropriate, manage and review the work products of consultants to the ICCT on issues related to Latin American initiatives

Minimum Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in engineering, environmental science, economics, or related disciplines preferred, or comparable work experience
  • 3+ years’ relevant work experience with a strong background and proven knowledge of air quality, climate change, and transportation policies;
  • Highly organized, self-directed, and strategic in problem solving and identifying policy needs
  • Strong proficiency with data manipulation and analysis, plus good modeling skills for use with HDV and freight activity and emissions
  • Excellent research, analytical, and quantitative skills (including advanced Excel skills), along with strong written and verbal communication skills, and strong emotional intelligence
  • Deep understanding of HDV and freight sector and issues, including vehicle and fuel regulations, green freight programs, bus operations and financing, freight operations and supply chain management; past experience working with bus operators, shippers, carriers, and third-party logistics providers a plus
  • Experience with the evaluation of technology and operational strategies to reduce HDV and freight emissions in a quantifiable manner
  • Some travel required, both within the US and internationally
  • English/Spanish or English/Portuguese fluency required; some ability to communicate in all three languages a plus
