E3G is looking for a researcher to join its Clean Economy team to support diplomacy to facilitate a transition of fossil fuel dependent countries, with an initial focus on Russia. The role is based in E3G’s London or Berlin office1.

E3G is looking for a Researcher to join its growing Clean Economy team. Key Responsibilities 

The candidate will mainly work as a researcher for the Climate Neutral Energy Systems team in E3G’s Clean Economy programme as it is building up its work on facilitating a global transition towards a clean economy, away from fossil fuels. It will closely collaborate with E3G’s climate diplomacy team to develop adequate diplomatic engagement strategies.  

The candidate will report to the Senior Policy Advisor on Energy Diplomacy in the Clean Economy team.  

Key responsibilities include:  

  • Prepare clear, accessible research and analysis to inform policy briefings, reports and presentations regarding international climate and energy politics, particularly on the opportunities for bilateral climate cooperation between UK and Russia and between the EU, UK and other fossil fuel producers.
  • Support preparations and running of workshops and meetings internally and with external partners from the civil society, private sector and government. Initial focus will be on workshops regarding UK-Russia cooperation on climate change.  
  • Provide administrative and organisational support, including note taking.  
  • International travel may be required from time to time but this should not prevent you from applying if circumstances do not allow you to. 

Person specification 

We’re looking for a successful candidate who can demonstrate a range of qualifications, competencies and experience to fit the role, including:  

  • A high-quality degree and substantial self-led research experience in a professional or academic setting (required), preferably on political economy, climate policy, foreign policy, trade, geopolitics, energy or a related field (desired).  
  • Strong research, analytical and thinking skills with intellectual curiosity and creativity and proficiency working with complex information  
  • In addition to fluency in English, the ability to read, write and communicate in Russian proficiently enough to conduct research and logistical tasks (ca B2 and above level). 
  • Supportive, collaborative and open colleague and team player and ability to reflect on your own strengths and weaknesses  
  • Well organised and focused on delivering desired outputs, results and outcomes  
  • Adept at presenting clear, accessible analysis in written form and presenting ideas clearly and credibly with colleagues.

The candidate must have the right to work in either the UK or Germany. The role is designed as a full-time role but we are open to discussing other work arrangements. Remote working will be required during COVID restrictions, with the option to maintain a hybrid pattern post restrictions. 

We offer a gross annual salary within the range of £27-£34k in the UK and €29-38k in Germany based on experience.
