Description

IIED is a leader policy research organisation in the field of sustainable development. The Sustainable Markets Group (SMG) investigates issues of market structures, environmental externalities, power, access and rules of operation to support the design of markets that promote sustainable development from the local to the global level. In partnership with Hivos, we have recently launched the Knowledge Programme on Small Producer Agency in the Globalized Market, to synthesise and integrate knowledge in this area, raise debate and strengthen the capacity of smallholder organisations and their support networks for better decision and action.

We are now recruiting a coordinator who will take prime responsibility for the development and implementation of the Knowledge Programme under the leadership of the SMG Head and in conjunction with IIED and Hivos colleagues. A fellow coordinator is also being recruited at Hivos; the two will manage the Programme jointly, working closely with a South-led Network of policy-makers, practitioners and specialists of smallholder agriculture set up as part of the Programme. To meet the post’s needs, we are looking for a dynamic researcher with a strong combination of academic and policy-oriented research, communication, negotiation and project management skills. Educated to a postgraduate level, the successful candidate will have practical work experience in Africa, Latin America or Asia and be familiar with the debate on smallholder agriculture, market access and globalisation. Experience of writing and editing various materials for technical and less technical audiences will be essential. Fluency in Spanish will be in asset. The job description contains the full list of responsibilities and requirements for this post along with an outline of the Knowledge Programme.

IIED is committed to diversity and equal opportunities. Applications are welcome from all duly qualified candidates who meet the stated criteria.
