Job description: 

The Sustainable Markets and Climate Change Groups at IIED are looking for a Climate Change Economist to work on the Economics of Climate Change Objective to support climate change policy and action in developing countries.

Summary of department: 

IIED’s Economics of Climate Change Objective is part of the Sustainable Markets Group, and also works closely with the Climate Change Group. It works to support climate change policy and action in developing countries by focusing on the economic impacts of climate change and the value of adaptation in specific countries, sectors and hotspots, and in the context of the specific economic, ecological and social systems within those countries.

Summary of role: 

The post holder will work with both the Sustainable Markets Group, and the Climate Change Group, to apply economic analysis to climate change issues in developing countries. The post holder will design, promote and carry out a portfolio of activities relating to climate change economics including: independent and commissioned research; organization and facilitation of international meetings; and writing and speaking for professional and general audiences. Key responsibilities include: research projects on the economics of climate change; supporting research teams in developing countries; writing, editing and coordination of the publication of research findings; developing funding proposals; and managing budgets and work plans.  

To succeed in this role you must have a post-graduate degree in a relevant branch of economics, quantitative analysis skills and substantial relevant experience of policy-oriented economic research. You should also have experience of research management, including fundraising and budgets; a strong publications record; and experience of working in developing countries. With excellent communication and IT skills you will be able to work both independently and as part of an international team. Please see attached job description for further information.
