NREL's Thin Film Technologies Group in the National Center for Photovoltaics has an immediate opening for a full time (40 hours per week) Research Technician.
Duties will include assisting with research aimed at developing processes for fabrication of high-performance thin-film photovoltaic devices. Specific duties will involve routine,photolithographic process to mesa etch and isolate solar cell devices; maintaining photolithography equipment and process within specifications; and performing routine chemical bath deposition (CBD). Materials analysis will include standard performance and materials measurements including film-thickness, light and dark current-voltage, quantum efficiency and optical absorption. Duties will also include routine maintenance of deposition and analysis equipment, day-to-day oversight of laboratory functionality, and training of laboratory users.
High School Diploma or equivalent and 7 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience. 

Or, relevant Associate's Degree or certification program of comparable scope and 5 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience.
Full knowledge of specialized focused support functions. Complete acquaintance with and understanding of the general and detailed aspects of the supported activities, and their practical applications to problems and situations ordinarily encountered. 

Proficient in research techniques and practices. Solid communication, interpersonal, project management and customer relations skills.
Willing and motivated to learn new tasks and conduct duties with care and safety. 14 or more years hands-on work experience with routine thin-film materials processing in a chemical-laboratory setting. Ability to record and communicate details of novel technical processes clearly. Worker must demonstrate high level of organizational competence and self-motivation. 

Safe performance of the work associated with this project is a primary concern. The worker shall comply with the applicable rules and regulations of OSHA and state and local governments concerning environment, safety and health. Worker will also be required to prepare and administer documentation required to demonstrate adherence with applicable policies.
10 or more years experience with elements of vacuum technology including troubleshooting and equipment maintenance. 10 or more years experience with physical and chemical vapor deposition 
equipment and processing. 10 or more years experience with standard thin-film materials analysis equipment and techniques. 5 or more years of experience with optimizing work and maintenance schedules for technical equipment in a research and/or production environment.
