CSIRO is seeking to deepen its abilities to undertake quantitative research underpinning biosecurity decision making. Areas of research include modelling invasion pathways of pests and pathogens, and making inference on the dynamics of eradication programs.

This will be a good opportunity for a talented quantitative researcher to take an exciting role in our team of environmental and agricultural statisticians in Canberra. The successful candidate will be working primarily on the application of quantitative methods to biosecurity applications.

Specifically you will:

  • Develop quantitative methodology and/or adapt existing methods in novel and creative ways to inform the management and/or prevention of biological invasions.
  • Implement this methodology and publish results in the scientific literature, with a focus on both statistical and domain journals and conferences.
  • Support the application scientists in the biosecurity domain to build a stronger evidence base and inferential framework.

Location:   Canberra, ACT

Salary:        $86K - $93K pa plus up to 15.4%superannuation

 To be successful you will have:

  • PhD or equivalent qualification in statistics or mathematics, or demonstrable high level quantitative skills in a relevant scientific discipline.
  • A track record in the application of mathematics and/or statistics to real world problems.
