An opportunity has arisen for a suitably experienced Research Scientist (Fire Ecology) to join this dynamic organisation. The position is responsible for undertaking research to increase knowledge about ecosystems in relation to fire in urban bushland and enhance the Authority’s ecosystem management and restoration science capacity.

BGPA enjoys an international reputation for excellence in biodiversity conservation science, undertaking integrated research focused on practical outcomes in native plant biology, rare plant conservation and restoration at the species, ecosystem and landscape scale.

Kings Park and Botanic Garden covers 400 ha in the inner city of Perth. The State's 17 hectare Botanic Garden provides spectacular displays in a living research centre committed to the conservation of Western Australia's flora. Nearly two thirds of the Park is natural bushland containing about 320 species of native plants and around 80 bird species. Bold Park, with 437 ha of woodlands and shrub lands, is the largest remaining bushland remnant in the urban area of the Swan Coastal Plain and provides a haven for over 1,000 different plant, animal and fungi species recorded.

Reporting directly to the Director Science, the successful applicant will possess extensive knowledge and experience in data management and interpretation, understanding of fire ecology principles and practices, demonstrated ability to independently manage experimental research projects and a degree (PhD or equivalent) in biological or environmental science or extensive relevant industry experience.

A psychometric assessment may form part of the selection process.
