A highly motivated Restoration Ecologist (or equivalent) is required for an exciting ecological restoration research project in the World Heritage Area at Shark Bay, Western Australia. The position is based in the Science Directorate at Kings Park and Botanic Garden in Perth - a state of the art facility aimed at conserving and restoring the flora of Western Australia.

Job Description

The aims of the project are to provide information about the ecology of the Shark Bay ecosystem and to improve efficiency in restoration through more efficient seed use, ultimately to deliver an effective and biodiverse restorated landscape. In particular, the project will investigate vegetation dynamics to develop successional models of both natural and restored sites, and study seedling recruitment to optimise seed broadcasting.

The Restoration Ecologist will be based at Kings Park and will be encouraged to collaborate with other scientists in the Directorate.

The program is both field and laboratory based providing opportunities to work in the world-class landscapes at Shark Bay in Western Australia.

Selection Criteria

Applicants should address the following criteria in a written application.

  • Demonstrated extensive knowledge and experience in ecological restoration principles and practices including vegetation surveys, assessment of seedling recruitment and vegetation dynamics, and seed science.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage significant experimental research programs, including the ability to analyse and interpret experimental data and deliver timely research outcomes.
  • High level of written and verbal skills in communicating science, with a demonstrated ability to publish research findings in refereed scientific journals.
  • Demonstrated high level experience in maintaining and promoting effective working relationships with colleagues, stakeholders, community and external research organisations.
  • PhD qualification or PhD thesis submitted in restoration ecology, or related disciplines.
