CSIRO are seeking to appoint an experienced Research Projects Officer in the area of Hybrid energy storage devices. You will work in a project group to develop novel energy storage devices based on lithium batteries and/or super capacitors.
The project targets are to improve the energy and power density of these devices and/or increase their lifetime. This project follows CSIRO’s successful track record of developing the revolutionary Lead-acid based “ultrabattery” and falls within the CSIRO Energy Transformed Flagship program to provide reliable energy storage devices for renewable energy conversion and storage, as well as for electric/hybrid vehicles.
Specifically you will:
- Test and evaluate the physical properties of active materials (PSD, BET area, conductivity etc);
- Prepare formulations of active materials for battery/supercapacitor electrodes;
- Prepare electrodes using slurry coating and/or pasting techniques;
- Under Research Scientist’s direction, develop experimental methods to evaluate electrode performance (physical & electrochemical properties).; and
- Assemble electrodes, with electrolyte, into a working cell/device under inert conditions
Location: Clayton, VIC

To be successful you will have:
- A Bachelor Degree in science or a related discipline. (Alternatively, a work history in research areas relevant to the project would be considered.)
- Demonstrated research experience with the testing of electroactive materials.
- A working knowledge of electrochemistry and materials science and demonstrated skills using electrochemical equipment (e.g. AC impedance, CV ):and
- Effective written and oral communication skills including the ability to document results and communicate effectively with colleagues in order to meet project goals and timelines.
