Description |
This project offers a wide range of research and volunteer opportunities that promote the development of field work skills and research techniques, whilst providing an enjoyable and memorable African bush experience. The research programme includes ecological, cultural and anthropological topics (i.e. giraffe ecological and behavioural studies, alien plant monitoring and control, carnivore sign surveys, primate habituation and behavioural studies, cultural documentation, etc). Opportunities also exist for active involvement in reserve management and species monitoring programmes. The project also caters for independent researchers pursuing MSc and PhD degrees by offering a wide variety of study topics, a well-developed infrastructure and logistical support. The project also offers affordable adventure and leisure activities so participants can experience the rich cultural and ecological heritage of the area – game drives, guided hikes, and cultural tours. The project costs £251 per month which includes comfortable accommodation with self-catering facilities, project supervision and support, use of all research centre facilities, free internet access, transport on the reserve, and weekly shopping trips. Camping is available at a cost of £113 per month. Long-term volunteers will benefit from reduced accommodation rates. Meals can be either self-catered for or purchased on-site at very reasonable rates. A full project description, including application instructions, is given within the member's area of our website.
