Description

The Energy Strategy Center (ESC) is the communications team of the European Climate Foundation (ECF.) The ECF aims to promote climate and energy policies that greatly reduce Europe’s greenhouse gas emissions and help Europe play an even stronger international leadership role in mitigating climate change.

General job description

We’re looking for 2 interns to work on a specific project examining media representations of climate change. The internships will be based in central London, and will be unpaid. We’ll cover reasonable travel expenses and lunch. Candidates will need to be available for at least 3 months.

If you have a keen interest in coverage of climate science and policy in the media and online, and you’re an excellent researcher and communicator, this is a great opportunity to gain experience of working at the cutting edge of the climate debate.

The intern’s responsibilities will include some of the following tasks, but note that this is not an exhaustive list and tasks will vary:

  • Researching coverage of climate science and policy online and in the media;
  • Media monitoring;
  • Writing for the web;
  • Managing contact database;
  • Administrative support;
  • Working on a self-directed project.

The ideal candidate will have the following practical qualifications and attributes:

  • Enthusiasm and attention to detail;
  • An interest in climate science and policy;
  • An interest in writing about the climate debate;
  • Someone who understands and wants to support the values of the ECF;
  • Relevant work experience or academic background in the fields of journalism, environmental studies or communications;
  • A self-motivated fast learner who can work well in a small team;
  • Fluency in English is required.

What you'll get out of it: valuable firsthand professional experience and developmen, an introduction to the ECF and ESC’s vast network of connections in the field, and the chance to learn key investigative skills, network with scientists and science reporters and extend your knowledge of climate change.
