Climate Focus North America is seeking a highly motivated individual to join the climate change and land use team based in Washington, D.C. as a research fellow. The successful applicant will be expected to support senior staff working across Climate Focus offices to conduct research and analysis, contribute to proposals and tenders, and draft policy and legal advice for clients under the direction of senior staff. This will include national and international climate and agriculture policy, climate finance, climate smart agriculture and other legal and regulatory advice. A significant portion of the applicant’s time will be to support the Climate Focus Colombia office, in particular towards a project in Nicaragua working on building capacity and developing best practices for agriculture and climate change adaptation. Fluency in both written and oral Spanish is essential. Travel within Latin America will also be required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree with related experience in natural resource management, forest and/or agriculture policy; or a master’s degree and a demonstrated interest in climate change.
  • Experience or knowledge of agricultural policy, adaptation and REDD+ required, experience with other areas of climate change policy and/or finance desirable.
  • Adaptable, self-motivated fast learner with strong inter-personal and time management skills.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a multicultural team on multiple assignments.
  • Excellent research, analytical, and writing skills.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish required. Additional languages are desirable.
  • Experience working in developing countries desirable.
